State Symbols
Virginia's State Flower is the American dogwood, it was decided in 1918. Their state bird is a cardinal and that was decided in 1950. Virginia's state dog is the American foxhound and it was decided in 1966. The state shell is an oyster shell that was decided in 1974. Dogwood tree was decided in 1956.
Virginia State Flag
Virginia's state flag was made to look like a deep blue field with the Virginia state flag in the middle with the Latin motto " Sic Semper Tyrannis" - "Thus Always to Tyrants." Don't forget that in the center of the flag is Virginia written to represent their state. This flag was founded in 1776. Notice that the crown is laying next to the two men fighting it is to represent a fallen crown. In other words that Virginia rules.
